Good evening All ~
Well, “Super Storm Sandy” made her presence known on Monday. She brought high winds and lots of rain. We were very lucky and the Farm only sustained some minor damage that is easy to repair.

Our volunteers were busy again this weekend…

Linda painted Siren’s doghouse, which is situated next to our sign at the entrance to the property. The doghouse has been painted to match the kennel building. It looks amazing!

Volunteers, Matt and Danielle, stopped by to lend a hand to finish some of the projects on our to-do list.

We are waiting on final approval by the inspector so that the electric company can “flip the switch”. The electrical outlets are all in place. The Heating/Air Conditioning unit and hot water heater are installed and both are waiting to be hooked up.

The drywall has been completed on the interior walls and the spackling is underway to prep the walls for paint. The bathroom, utility/supply closet and office walls are all up.

The interior floors need to be sealed, but that will be one of the last items to be completed.

Good morning ~
As I write this, the Northeast is waiting for the arrival of Sandy. Latest reports are showing that we can expect strong winds and heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday. With the news of the (now) Category 1 Hurricane, many were rushing out to buy the necessities ~ water, nonperishable food and batteries. But do you know what you need to do to prepare your pets for an emergency?

The ASPCA recommends the following to ensure your pet is safe…

• Keep at least 3 days worth of food in an airtight and waterproof container.
• Store at least 3 days of water for your pets. This is in addition to the water you need for you and your family.
• Keep an extra supply of your pet’s medications in a waterproof container.
• Make sure you have a first aid kit for your pet. This should include cotton bandage rolls, bandage tape, scissors, antibiotic ointment, flea and tick prevention, latex gloves, isopropyl alcohol and saline solution. Also include a pet first aid reference book.
• Make sure your pet has a collar or harness with ID tags and a rabies tag. Include a backup collar with ID and backup leash.
• Place your pet’s registration information, vaccination history and medical records in a plastic bag or waterproof container.
• If you need to use a crate or pet carrier to transport your animal, make sure that the carrier is large enough for your pet to stand, turn around and lie down.
• A current photo of you and your pet. If you get separated, this will assist in identifying your pet.
• Include familiar items such as toys, treats or bedding to help reduce the stress of your pet.

Many evacuation shelters do not allow pets, so check with your local animal shelter to see if a pet friendly shelter has been set up in your area. For Pennsylvania, you can check the Pennsylvania State Animal Response Team’s site ~ this page will be updated with shelter information as needed.

Hello Pups ~
On October 13th, volunteers from the John Middleton company journeyed to the Farm to lend a hand with various projects around the kennels and property. I can’t count (I’m a dog, silly!), but there were A LOT of volunteers that sacrificed their Saturday morning (some even stayed longer!) to help. We couldn’t believe our eyes when the volunteers just kept arriving!

We had a list of things that needed to be done and the volunteers wasted no time splitting up and tackling the tasks.

First item on the list was to get our official sign in the ground. Done!

A group knocked down the outhouse ~ yes, there was an outhouse on the property. Since Huskies don’t use the toilet, we didn’t really need it. It was falling down anyway, so it was time to say goodbye to it.

Another group tackled the weeding and mulching of the flower beds around the farmhouse. Not only did they weed, but they also edged and cut back the hostas. After they planted the few mums that we had on the porch, a few of the volunteers left and came back with even more mums!

Still another group started in the kennels. Our interior kennel runs got their first coat of paint. The fencing around the kennel building was almost finished.

Later in the morning, Joey came out to supervise and greet as many of the volunteers as he could.

Hello Pups ~
On October 21st, MaPaw will be hosting a bake sale during our adoption day at Petco in Pottstown, PA. The bake sale is from 11 am until 3 pm and will feature delicious human goodies made by our volunteers! All proceeds will benefit the pups of MaPaw!

Stop by to meet some sweet pups and buy some sweet treats! Hope to see you there!

Hello Pups ~
Our volunteers have been hard at work and the kennels are looking amazing!!!

Our long awaited telephone pole has been delivered and installed by the telephone company. Our awesome volunteers have installed all of the interior electrical wiring with the help of an electrician (of course). So now we are waiting for the electric company to bring us electric to the building!

The outdoor kennel floor has been sealed and the outdoor kennel runs have been constructed and installed.

There are still things that need to be done, but our to-do list is getting shorter and shorter…

We are so excited and can’t wait until the kennels are done and we can welcome our first guest!

Good evening Puppers ~
On September 22nd and 23rd, MaPaw participated in the Fido’s Festival event held in Woodstown, NJ. This is our third year at the event and we have so much fun every year!

At last year’s event, Dash was a shy guy that we were just trying to get exposure. He met a family with a female Sibe about the same size as Dash. When the 2 pups met, it was like they had been forever friends. We were so happy for Dash when he went to his forever home. This year, Dash and his family stopped by our site to say hello. He is such a happy boy ~ still a little tentative when he meets new people, but he’s clearly in love with his family and his family is in love with him! We love happy tails!

We debuted our kissing booth. For $1, our visitors could get a kiss from one of our adorable Huskies or their own dog could get in the kissing booth and have their photo taken. We’ve posted all of the photos here. There are lots of wonderful shots ~ some of those pups were real hams!

Zeke was at the event both days being his lovable self. He did scootering demos on both Saturday and Sunday. He did such a great job ~ he’s a natural at scootering! He also made several appearances in our kissing booth! He was a busy boy and was quite sleepy at the end of both days.

On Sunday, MaPaw volunteers Jen and Chris made their way to the event. They brought their pups Max, Drake (MaPaw alum) and Neiko (MaPaw alum), as well as their MaPaw foster pup, Gage. Max, Drake and Neiko were on hand to do a dry land mushing demo. The boys did a great job ~ although they wanted to keep turning to the left for some reason.

Gage came along to meet a potential adopter. The meeting went well, but did he get adopted? You’ll have to check back to see…

It was a great weekend ~ we visited with old friends and made lots of new ones! Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

Congratulations Gage!!!

Gage is a 9 month old puppy who found himself homeless after being with his first family for just over one week. We don’t know why, Gage is a wonderful boy who is willing to please and eager to learn.

Gage is a big boy and is settling in very nicely in his foster home and quickly making friends. He is sweet and affectionate and loves having canine siblings to play with. He follows the other dogs around so he can learn as much as possible. He will be best in a home with another dog his size.

Gage is housebroken and is learning every day how to be more gentle. He is trustworthy in the house, however, does not like to be crated. This big boy loves to cuddle and is low-medium energy for his age.

This smart boy is learning more every day while he waits for his forever home where he can belong and be loved. If you are looking for a sibe-companion, please ask us to tell you more about Gage!

Hello Puppers ~
We are officially half way through the month of September. The weather is a bit cooler and the Huskies are definitely enjoying it!

We’ve already had 1 appearance at Petco in Pottstown, PA and we have another coming up tomorrow. We schedule 2 visits a month to our local Petco. It’s a wonderful venue to show off some of our available pups and have them meet their adoring public… And the people at Petco are pretty cool, too!

Next weekend is going to be quite a busy 2 days for MaPaw and our pups…

First, we start our weekend off with the Pottstown Pet Fair (Pottstown, PA) and Fido Fest (Woodstown, NJ) on Saturday, September 22nd. This will be our first year at the Pottstown Pet Fair and we’re looking forward to having a great time and meeting more of our neighbors! We have attended Fido Fest for the last few years and we always have a blast and so do our dogs. The Fest has lots of great things to see and do with your canine companion. You should definitely check it out. It’s a two day event full of fun for everyone.

On Sunday, MaPaw will be hosting our first Road Rally. We’ve mapped out a 60 mile course starting at Gilbertsville Fire Company (Gilbertsville, PA). There will be 5 stops along the way, each with a MaPaw token to collect. Tickets are $18 per person. Click here to learn all the details!

We end September with our monthly breakfast at Gilbertsville Fire Company (Gilbertsville, PA). You can choose either buffet style or full service breakfast and MaPaw will receive 10%!
