Willie Nelson

Age: 7 years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

As you can see, Willie Nelson is a handsome husky with big blue eyes. Willie originally came to MaPaw with aggression issues, but we could see that he was a really good dog at heart. It was later discovered that Willie has slight problems with his sight, a degenerative eye disease common to Huskies called Corneal Dystrophy. Huskies rarely lose all of their sight to Corneal Dystrophy but his corneas will appear to have a greyish oblong area which may make his sight hazy.

MaPaw’s goal was to transition this good boy from being a permanent resident into an adoptable dog, so in an effort to achieve this Willie has received special needs training from a professional trainer. Through a lot of focused work, patience, and love, Willie has become a confident dog, and the time has come to find his forever home. Willie’s adoptive family will need guidance with this special needs boy, and will have to work with MaPaw for a transitioning process, requiring several visits to MaPaw in order to get to know Willie before moving with you to his new home.

Those who’ve worked closely with Willie believe the optimal conditions for him are a stable home with a human(s) home most of the time in order to offer Willie proper companionship. Willie could do well with calmer doggy companions who are his same size (no small dogs or other small animals). Willie is good with older children, but not with toddlers or babies due to their abrupt or unpredictable movements and noise level.

Willie loves to go for brisk walks, loves car rides. Willie might be okay in a home without a fenced yard if the appropriate level of activity is provided for him.

Niko – *Pending Adoption*

Age: 8 years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Handsome Niko has been living with his foster mom for the past few months since coming into rescue after his human passed away. He is crate trained and always lets foster mom know when he needs to go out. Niko is shy with humans, seeming to be more comfortable with women, but could probably develop trust in men too. (We’ve seen this positive development happen with other MaPaw pups.) Foster mom noticed that his eyes are a little crossed, which she says only adds to his cuteness.

Niko is a timid boy overall, and tends to bark and run for cover when he hears sounds like the washing machine running, or the central air conditioning unit when it’s on and he’s out in the yard. Niko would be best in a quieter home without a lot of fast moving activity or small children, and he would likely be happiest as an only dog because he’s not too crazy about other dogs, male dogs in particular. A backyard enclosed with a fence that’s at least 5 feet high would be best for him.

Niko is a special boy who’s looking for a loving forever home with a special human who has a gentle touch, someone who will continue working with him as he learns to love his new life with you.

Rex

Age: 1 1/2 years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Rex came into MaPaw through a wonderful person who rescued him from a Craig’s list posting. Rex is a loving and affectionate boy who just wants to please. He’s got a lot of energy and will require a home with a fenced yard or with someone who has a very active lifestyle. Rex knows a couple of his basic commands: sit and paw. He gets along with other dogs and is good with kids, although he’s still in the mouthy stage so he’d probably be better off with older kids. This young boy is still in need of basic training so he’d be best with a husky savvy person who will patiently work with him. If you’re looking for a strikingly handsome kissy young pup to be your loyal companion, a boy who’s ready and willing to learn from you, a boy who will sleep on the floor (or in bed) right next to you, then Rex could be just right for you.

P.S. Rex loves chest rubs!

Saber

Age: 14 months
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Saber came into rescue because of family changes that would have left him home alone for too many hours, and they wanted Saber to have the companionship this good boy deserves.

Saber’s foster mom has only good things to say about this playful and silly young boy. He gets along with other dogs, likes people, and is reportedly good with kids. Saber is trustworthy in the house and respects boundaries (no counter surfing or need for a crate). He has loads of energy but easily calms down when need be. Saber knows all of his basic commands: paw, sit, down, and stay. This boy just loves life and is always ready to tell you so! He’s a mouthy pup who enjoys a good conversation (or argument) on just about anything. This handsome sweetheart is about as perfect a young Husky as you’ll find!

Saber has great fun playing with his two husky foster brothers, so he’d probably enjoy a sibling who has the same energy level as he does, however if he’s adopted into a home where he receives lots of loving attention and has some playful doggy friends, he’ll probably be quite happy enjoying his top dog status!

Blue

Age: 2 years
Sex: Male
Size: Small

Our best guess is that Blue is a Husky/Shiba Inu mix. This little guy came into rescue from a residence that was incapable of properly caring for him. He’s a bit timid at first but bonds quickly with people. Blue loves petting, belly rubs, and walks. He’s shy around other dogs, so we think he’d probably be best as an only dog in a house with just adults who are home most of the time, or with someone who could take Blue to work with them. In return Blue will be a loyal and wonderful companion!

King

Age: About 18 months
Sex: Male
Size: Average

King is a fun loving youth who’s had little training. King would greatly benefit from husky savvy humans who will help him learn basic commands and how to be a polite pup! We’ll elaborate more on King as we learn more about him.

Blue (2)

Age: 3 years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Blue is a friendly beauty who along well with other dogs and loves children of all ages, from infants to older kids. She does well in the car and on a leash. She’s not food possessive, although she likes to think that all toys are hers. When asked to list her good qualities, her foster mom says, “everything”. Her one vice is stealing food boxes from the pantry. Apparently the boxes of mac and cheese are a favorite.
