| Siren,
a young Siberian Husky, has dramatically changed Doug's live.
She has encouraged him in his rehabilitation and has partnered
with him in his physical therapy and therapy walks. Discouraged
at a very difficult time in his life, Siren has brought fresh
hope into Doug's life and renewed interests.
As a
rescue group, we see many success stories and “Happy
Tails” but none equal the story of Siren and Doug.
Siren
was abandoned on a dangerously hot day – dumped at a
farm as the vehicle sped away. She was sick and broken and
screaming in pain (thus her name Siren). She required immediate
and extensive vet care. Once stabilized she entered into our
rescue and after a lot of TLC a sweet, lovable, sassy girl
emerged. She was healthy again and was ready to find her new
forever home.
Doug
was involved in a very serious accident and is still recovering.
This dear sweet man who walked with two canes asked for our
help in finding him a new friend and partner. We were very
cautious due to the Siberians traits of pulling and escape
artists, however, decided to introduce him to Siren.
It was
love at first sight and amazingly Siren immediately picked
up on Doug’s special needs. She treats him with uncanny
respect and gentleness. Instead of pulling on lead she hesitates
and looks back at him with his canes. She is constantly by
his side and loves to play with him. On his bad days she curls
up with Doug for comfort and quality time. Siren is especially
eager to help him on his therapy walks or physical therapy
and knows the difference between “work” and “play”.
Siren
has rekindled the interest Doug was losing in life. They were
both very near death, but with each other they are now embracing
life. Siren and Doug are now active parts of our rescue group
and helping with any way they can. Doug is down to one cane
now and continues to improve with the help of his “little
buddy”.
We are
all so very proud of Siren – and Doug. Siren has exceeded
all normal expectations of her breed. Her daily acts of kindness
and service to Doug seem small, however, the larger picture
is responsible for Doug’s well-being, happiness and
continued improvement. She has focused entirely on her “daddy’s”
needs and serves him well.
Miracles
DO happen. All of us at MaPaw Siberian Husky Rescue respectfully
submit this truly remarkable adoption to the ACE awards are
proud that Siren has been accepted as a nominee. |
